When one thinks of an endangered animal, it is one that being threatened with extinction. Endangered animals are those that used to be in large numbers in the wild but they have now lost a large number of members. Many countries have put in place a number of laws, rules and regulations that protect endangered animals and have even placed some of them in conservation programs in their natural habitat or in a facility.
Because of the varying levels of endangered animals, a number of animal organizations have come up with a system that categorizes these species accordingly. Animals that are no longer visible in their natural habitat and need to be places in a conservation program are known as extinct in the wild animals. Those that have not been sighted in at least 50 years due to the fact that their last member is considered dead are generally known as extinct. The endangered level is where these animals are protected to prevent extinction.
What can cause an animal to be endangered? There are 3 main causes and these are changes in predator parameters, climate changes and also a general reduction in their population. Global warming and other climate changes have been known to deem animals endangered. When predators change their habitats and hunting tactics, they can destroy a large species population. Poachers can also cause the numbers of these animals to dwindle especially if they are being sought after for sale of their parts or products.
Countries that have experienced animals indigenous to their areas becoming endangered have put in place some precautionary measures. To begin with any poaching in a protected animal conservatory can lead to a hefty punishment by the law. Also development like buildings cannot be erected in places considered to be endangered species reserves. They have also chosen to come up with special zones like conservatories where the endangered animals can be protected by the government.
